Job Overview

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join our team. The role involves supporting the day-to-day operations of the yard, ensuring it remains safe, organised, and efficient. The Yard Man will be responsible for assisting with vehicle and equipment movements, maintaining yard standards, and providing general support to the transport and operations teams.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Organise and maintain the yard to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.

• Assist with the loading and unloading of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.

• Carry out routine checks on vehicles, trailers, and equipment as required.

• Safely move and park heavy vehicles or plant machinery within the yard.

• Support drivers with preparation of loads and securing equipment.

• Report any defects, damage, or maintenance issues to management.

• Operate yard equipment (e.g., forklifts, telehandlers) if trained and authorised.

• Follow all company health & safety procedures and industry regulations.

• Provide general support to the wider operations team as required.

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous experience working in a yard, warehouse, or transport environment (preferred but not essential).

• Basic mechanical knowledge of vehicles or plant machinery would be advantageous.

• Ability to operate forklifts or other yard machinery (training can be provided).

• Good understanding of health & safety practices.

• Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks.

• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

• Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
